Killeen is located between Austin and Waco, about 60 miles from each. The city is home to Fort Hood, one of the largest U.S. military installations in the world. The post hosts several U.S. Army units, including III Corps headquarters, the 1st Cavalry Division, the 1st Army Division West, and the NCO Academy. Various Fort Hood museums and events are open to the public, including an Independence Day celebration that features a gigantic fireworks display. Texas A&M University Central Texas is located in Killeen.
