Chickasha is the county seat, business, and employment center of Grady County in Central Oklahoma, a region with a rich Native American heritage. The city is home to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The annual Festival of Light holiday celebration at Shannon Springs Park has won numerous awards. Oklahoma City and Fort Sill in Lawton are both about 30 miles away on I-44. Fort Sill, a historic Army post that dates back to the Indian Wars, conducts the Army Field Artillery School, Army Air Defense Artillery School, and Basic Combat Training.
